Even when the windscreen wipers are operating at the slowest speed, the blades may wipe when the windshield is dry due to low rainfall. This causes the wiper blades to wear out too quickly as well as abrasion of the windshield. Especially in vehicles with a rear window wiper, the wiping intervals must be longer.

 

After ELO Intermittent Wiper Relay is activated, the blades complete first round of wiping and continue operation with 5 second intervals.
